DID YOU KNOW: Sept. 14 is 30th death anniversary of National Scientist Julian Banzon
Today, Sept. 14, is the 30th death anniversary of National Scientist and biophysical chemist Julian Banzon.
Born on March 25, 1908, he was recognized for his outstanding contributions in the field of chemistry in the Philippines.
His studies on the Philippine palm, the coconut, showed that it could be used as a renewable source of chemicals and fuels.

Banzon was conferred the title of National Scientist by President Corazon Aquino in July 1986.
He died in 1988 at the age of 80. —Marielle Medina
