8-month-old baby drowns in Albay flood
LEGAZPI CITY – An eight-month-old baby drowned in a flood caused by rains brought by Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut) that had been pouring without letup since Thursday night in Pio Duran town in Albay province on Friday morning.
Chief Inspector Joseph Abel Jarabejo, chief of Pio Duran police, said the baby’s parents woke up around 5 a.m. and noticed that their child Crissa Joy De Castro was missing from their bed in their home in Barangay 1.
Jarabejo said an investigation revealed that the child fell on the bamboo floor and was carried by the water which overflowed from a nearby river through a hole on the floor.
The victim was found by the couple dead in the flooded backyard.
“Their house is situated two meters away from the river,” Jarabejo said.
