BAGUIO CITY—- Strong winds howled through Abra province on Saturday (Sept. 15) as Typhoon ‘Ompong’ barreled through the provinces of northern Luzon.
Strong winds churned by the typhoon almost ripped the roof off a plaza stage in La Paz town.
Fallen trees and other debris have blocked roads as residents have been advised to stay indoors until crews have finished clearing the debris, said Elmer Bersamin, chief of the Abra Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Since Friday night (Sept. 14) residents have fled their homes and moved to the various relocation centers.
The local government and the local churches are also taking care of some 1153 families (4583 individuals), according to Mark Balanay of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Abra.
Electricity has been cut throughout the province as a precaution. No injuries or casualties have been reported as of press time. Â /muf
