Today, Dec. 28, is the 40th death anniversary of National Artist for Visual Arts Hernando R. Ocampo.
Born on April 28, 1911 in Sta. Cruz, Manila, he was a self-taught painter whose abstract works left an indelible mark on Philippine modern art.
His notable work, 鈥淕enesis,鈥� served as the basis for the curtain design of the Cultural Center of the Philippines鈥� main theater. He died in 1978 in Caloocan City, and was posthumously named national artist in 1991.
