DFA records 1 more Filipino death in Europe due to COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — One more Filipino fatality was recorded in Europe due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Thursday.

This brings the total number of Filipino deaths in Europe to two. One, meanwhile, died in the Asia Pacific region.

Meanwhile, the overall number of Filipinos abroad infected with the viral disease jumped to 203.

The DFA added 93 of them are undergoing treatment, while 107 of them have recovered or have been discharged from the hospital.

The foreign affairs department further stated it has recorded COVID-19 positive Filipinos in 26 countries.

The COVID-19, which first broke out in the city of Wuhan in China in late 2019, is a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses named the novel coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2.

The virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people but can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
