MANILA, Philippines — Around 66,000 full-grown marijuana plants estimated to be worth P13.2 million have been burned down by anti-drug operatives in Tinglayan town of Kalinga.

Reports from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Tuesday said that the operations, led by a composite team from various PDEA and Philippine National Police offices, occurred at Barangay Loccong from July 17 to 19.

According to PDEA, the operation covered two marijuana plantations, which had a total land area of 4,500 square meters.

After the marijuana plants were uprooted, operatives burned the leaves on site.  Marijuana, a plant which is used for its leaves, flowers, and seeds to provide psychedelic effects to a user, is currently an illegal substance according to Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
