MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) received P569 million worth of new equipment which officials said would boost the PNP’s mobile patrol operations and firepower.
The new pieces of equipment consisted of 92 single cab patrol jeeps, six 4×4 personnel carriers, 90 1,000cc motorcycles, 7,700 Galil Ace 5.56mm basic assault rifles and 434 digital handheld radios. These would be distributed to different PNP units in Luzon and the National Capital Region, the PNP said in a statement.
A turnover ceremony, led by PNP Chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan, was held at Camp Crame, the PNP headquarters, on Monday (Oct. 26).
The new patrol jeeps will be sent to municipal police stations and the Misamis Occidental provincial police force, the PNP statement said.
The motorcycles, intended for the Highway Patrol Group, would improve police response to street crimes, especially those involving motorcycle-riding suspects.
The rifles will be given to mobile forces and high-risk police stations while the handheld radios will be distributed to the National Capital Region Police Office.
