PH logs 1,776 new COVID-19 cases; total now at 483,852

MANILA, Philippines — The total COVID-19 cases in the country reached 483,852 as 1,776 more were infected, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday.

This is the highest recorded single-day increase since Christmas Day, when DOH recorded 1,885 additional infections.

The new cases bring the number of active cases or those who have yet to recover from the respiratory disease to 25,158 or 5.2% of the nationwide tally, according to DOH’s daily case bulletin.

The DOH also reported 285 new COVID-19 survivors, raising the recovery count to 449,330. Meanwhile, eight more people died of the viral illness, bringing the death count to 9,364.

Bulacan recorded the highest number of new cases with 99, followed by Davao City with 96, Quezon City with 83, Rizal 80, and Laguna with 64.

One case previously listed as recovered was reclassified as a death, DOH said.

“Five labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Data Repository System (CDRS) on Jan. 7, 2021,” it added.[ac]
