MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has appointed award-winning Inquirer long-time journalist Michael Lim Ubac as the Undersecretary for Integrated Presidential Messaging of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

Ubac took his oath before PCO Secretary Jay Ruiz last April 4.

Ubac said his main responsibility is to assist Ruiz, whom he considered as his “good friend,” in fulfilling the latter’s mandate as Presidential communications chief.

“As Undersecretary for Integrated Presidential Messaging, my mission is to create unified messaging for Malacañang through the PCO,” Ubac said in a statement.

“The task is both challenging and exciting because it also involves communicating the actions of departments and agencies in the Executive,” he noted.

Ubac added that he is also tasked to oversee “the production of content that focuses on reliable reporting of President Marcos’ programs, projects and policies for the nation; document the President’s activities; and highlight positive news to better inform our citizens and overcome the harmful effects of fake news.”

He also noted that the PCO will continue to be a reliable source of information for the Filipinos if they will be able to communicate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s message, policies and programs “truthfully, timely and clearly.”

Ubac has almost three decades of journalism experience.

He served as a reporter, an editor, Daydesk Chief at the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDi) and Inquirer Plus’ managing editor.

As a reporter, he covered the National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, Senate, House of Representatives, Malacañang and the Supreme Court.

As a seasoned journalist, he earned several awards such as the Scoop Award from Hong Kong’s Society of Publishers in Asia, Best Investigative Story at the Louie R. Prieto Awards, and an Ombudsman Awards for his anti-graft exposés.

Adding to the long list of his accomplishments, he obtained his Master of Arts in Global Leadership from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in the United States of America in 2022, graduating as Summa Cum Laude.

He also earned a Master of Liberal Arts in International Relations from Harvard University, obtaining the Director’s Prize for Outstanding Thesis.

He graduated from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, graduating as Cum Laude.
