MANILA, Philippines — The country’s active COVID-19 case count went down to 66,060 on Tuesday, May 4, as the Department of Health (DOH) recorded lower than usual new infections.

DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin showed that 5,683 new cases were only recorded on Tuesday — far from the over 10,000 cases during the peak of the COVID-19 surge.  Additional 9,028 patients recovered from the disease brought the total recoveries to 984,210.

However, the low active case count may also be due to DOH’s admission that 21 laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS), despite all labs being operational on May 2.
