4 La Union towns ease into MGCQ as COVID-19 cases fall

DAGUPAN CITY—Four towns in La Union province eased into a more relaxed form of community quarantine as COVID-19 cases declined.

La Union Gov. Francisco Ortega III issued an executive order placing the towns of Agoo, Aringay, Naguilian and Tubao on modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) starting on Thursday (May 6). MGCQ is the least stringent form of lockdown.

The towns had been on GCQ from April 22 to May 5.

As of May 3, the number of active cases in La Union and the four towns had fallen. The towns are now classified as having minimal to moderate COVID-19 risks.

Previously, Agoo had 132 active cases while Aringay had 116. Naguillan had 171 while Tubao had 134 active infections.

The number of active cases had dropped to 49 in Agoo, nine in Aringay, 13 in Naguillan and five in Tubao.

La Union’s capital city of San Fernando, and the towns of Luna, Bauang and Bangar will remain on GCQ, the second least stringent lockdown form.
