PH’s COVID-19 death toll now at 25,149 as DOH logs 86 new fatalities

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 death toll in the Philippines is now at 25, 149 as the Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported 86 new fatalities.

The death count accounts for 1.75 percent of all infections, the DOH said.

The country also now has 1,436,369 COVID-19 cases after 5,966 new infections were reported on Sunday.

Of the total, 52,708 or 3.7 percent of all infections remain active cases, with most having mild or no symptoms at 95 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 recoveries is now at 1,358,512, or 94.6 percent, after 6,987 new recoveries were reported.

“Moreover, 130 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 27 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH noted.

The Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 2,256,851 cases, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker.

The country is also second in COVID-19 deaths in the region behind Indonesia with 60,027 recorded deaths.

As of posting, the global cases reached 183.4 million including 3.9 million deaths, according to the tracker.
