DOH logs 5,966 new COVID-19 cases; PH’s caseload now at 1,436,369
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported 5,966 new COVID-19 cases to bring the country’s total caseload to 1,436,369.
Of the total, 52,708 or 3.7 percent of all the infections remain active cases, with those having mild or no symptoms at 95 percent.
A total of 6,987 were added to the recovery count to bring the total number of recoveries to 1,358,512, or 94.6 percent of all cases.
Meanwhile, a total of 86 patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the COVID-19 death toll to 25,149, which accounts for 1.75 percent of all infections.
“Moreover, 130 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 27 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH noted.
The Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 2,256,851 cases, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker.
As of posting, global COVID-19 cases have reached 183.4 million including 3.9 million deaths, according to the tracker.
