San Juan City mayor files COC for reelection

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) to formalize his bid for a second term.

MANILA, Philippines — San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) to formalize his bid for a second term.

Zamora was joined by his slate in the filing at around 11 a.m. at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) San Juan office.

The incumbent San Juan City mayor was with his ticket comprising Atty. Bel Zamora for Congresswoman, Vice Mayor Warren Villa, Angelo Agcaoili, Paul Artadi, Ryan Llanos Dee, Raissa Laurel, Ervic Vijandre, and James Yap for councilors of District 1; and Don Allado, Totoy Bernardo, Bea de Guzman, Macky Mathay, Kit Peralta and Franco Yam for councilors of District 2.

His ticket attended a thanksgiving mass at St. John The Baptist Parish before they headed to the Comelec office.

Zamora boasted of San Juan City’s COVID-19 response, particularly how it became the first local government unit to vaccinate 70 percent of its target population against COVID-19.

“Sa langaran ng COVID, ang San Juan po ay nauna sa buong Pilipinas na nagkamit ng herd immunity o yung nakapag-vaccinate ng 70 percent ng target population at kasalukuyan pa rin po tayong namumuno pa rin upang tuluyan nang makatawid sa pandemyang ito,” Zamora said in an interview after he filed his COC.

(When it comes to COVID, San Juan was first in the country to achieve herd immunity or to vaccinate 70 percent of its target population and we continue to lead the city to address the pandemic.)

“Ang mga mamamayan lamang ng San Juan ang makakapagsabi kung ako po, sa tingin nila ay nakapaglingkod ng maayos bilang mayor, tiwala po ako na ang aming pamumuno dito sa San Juan ngayong panahon ng pandemya ay isang malaking bagay kung susukatin ng ating mga mamamayan,” he also said.

(Only the people of San Juan can say if they think I was effective as mayor. I know that my leadership here in San Juan during the pandemic will play a big role if the people will measure what we’ve done.)

In 2019, Zamora ended the Ejercito-Estrada’s 50-year grip on San Juan City when he won the mayoralty race.
