Trillanes files COC for senator

MANILA, Philippines — Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Friday formalized his Senate comeback bid and filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2022 elections.

Trillanes filed his COC for senator at 10 a.m. at the Hotel Sofitel Harbor Garden Tent in Pasay City.

The former senator said he will be running under the slate of Vice President Leni Robredo, who recently declared her presidential bid in next year’s elections.

Earlier, Trillanes expressed his intent to run for president in 2022 following Robredo’s supposed bid to vi for the gubernatorial post in Camarines Sur.

But Robredo’s announcement on Thursday, Trillanes vowed to fully support the vice president’s candidcy.

In a statement, Trillanes vowed to continue his anti-corruption and governance reforms advocacy in the Senate.

Should Robredo win, the former senator also said he will assist her administration in making accountable the officials who abused their power, especially amid the pandemic, through the oversight functions of the upper chamber.

Aside from this, Trillanes also said he will continue in pushing for measures on economic recovery and poverty alleviation, peace and order as well as reforms  in the pandemic response, healthcare system, the security sector and education.

“Above all, we must ensure that VP Leni will win as president to stop the destructive Duterte regime. After this, we can now start the rebuilding process for [the] country and that is the perfect role for future President Leni,” he said.
