MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has constructed another wall in Muntinlupa City which was later demolished by residents whose access to the city proper was blocked, the local government鈥檚 public information office (PIO) reported on Saturday.
The Muntinlupa City PIO said the BuCor鈥檚 wall, built within the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) affected residents of Katarungan Village 1 and Katarungan Village 2.
The Muntinlupa National High School-聽 Main and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa were likewise affected by the wall.
Muntinlupa City Representative Ruffy Biazon, City Administrator Allan Cachuela, and barangay captain Allen Ampaya, waited in vain for hours to discuss the matter with BuCor representatives.
The Muntinlupa PIO said that like the two previous walls erected by BuCor, the construction of the third one was not coordinated or discussed with the city government.
鈥淏uCor hasn鈥檛 coordinated with the local government of Muntinlupa regarding the road closure,鈥 the PIO said in a statement.
In March this year, the BuCor erected a wall along Insular Prison Road, one of the roads in the NBP Reservation which provides access for residents of Southville 3 to and from Barangay Poblacion proper and the city proper, due to 鈥渟ecurity reasons.鈥
聽Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and the City Council recently denounced BuCor鈥檚 move to build a concrete wall along Insular Road through a city resolution.
Biazon has lodged a resolution to conduct a Congressional inquiry on the closure of the road leading to Southville.
Public hearings were conducted through the House Justice Committee.
In June, another wall was erected聽 in an access road inside the NBP compound in Type B Magdaong.
