VILLASIS, Pangasinan, Philippines 鈥� They wanted to disrupt Vice President Leni Robredo鈥檚 political rally, but they ended up learning a thing or two about respect and her campaign platforms.
About 30 supporters of her staunch political rival, presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr., gatecrashed the political rally of Robredo and her running mate, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, here on Thursday.
The rowdy group shouted 鈥淏BM,鈥� Marcos Jr.鈥檚 initials, while Pangilinan was addressing the crowd of some 2,000 鈥渒akampinks,鈥� the self-ascribed moniker of Robredo鈥檚 campaign volunteers and followers, who gathered at Auditorium.
But Pangilinan just ignored the hecklers, reminding the audience to scrutinize the track record of the candidates and not to elect those who had been embroiled in corruption issues.
At one point, Marcos Jr.鈥檚 supporters tried to interrupt Robredo鈥檚 speech, prompting her to talk about the importance of respecting other people鈥檚 political beliefs.
鈥淭rue unity is based on respect for one another even if we have different [political] views,鈥� the vice president stressed.
