MANILA, Philippines 鈥 President Rodrigo Duterte visited on Black Saturday Capiz province, which was flooded by Tropical Depression Agaton (international name: Megi).
Duterte conducted an aerial inspection of the province, according to a video posted by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Facebook.
He later went to Pontevedra Elementary School Evacuation Center in town to lead the ceremonial distribution of relief goods to the evacuees.
鈥淐apiz is far. But I am happy that the weather permitted us to come here, to fly here and talk to you. So at least, I have left something for you,鈥 Duterte said, speaking in a mix of Filipino and English, in his speech at the evacuation center after the distribution.
On Friday, the president also visited Baybay City in Leyte province.
The total number of fatalities due to Agaton has climbed to 167, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Agaton, the first storm to hit the country this year,聽 weakened into a low-pressure area on Tuesday, April 12, and聽completely dissipated on Wednesday听尘辞谤苍颈苍驳.
