2 fish vendors yield P408,000 shabu in Quezon buy-bust

Authorities arrested suspects and confiscated a total of P680,000 worth of crystal meth, locally known as "shabu," in separate buy-bust operations in Cebu City and Naga City

LUCENA CITY—Police arrested two fish vendors on Wednesday, July 27, and seized more than P400,000 worth of shabu (crystal meth) from them in a buy-bust operation in Infanta town in Quezon province.

Colonel Joel Villanueva, Quezon police chief, in a report Thursday identified the suspected drug pushers as Edgardo Salvadora, 50, and his live-in partner, Michelle Tañola, 47.

Police collared the suspects around 10:30 p.m. after they reportedly sold P500 worth of shabu to an undercover cop acting as a drug user in Barangay Binulasan.

Seized from the suspects, who use their fish-selling business as a cover for their illegal activity, were nine plastic sachets of meth weighing 20 grams with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P136,000.

The confiscated illegal drugs are worth P408,000 in the street market at the prevailing price of P20,400 per gram, police said.

The police were conducting investigation to determine the source of the meth.

The suspects were detained at the local police jail and are facing charges of violating Section 5 and 11, Article II of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
