Abra earthquake aftershocks rise to 2,492

Earthquake hit Abra and shook other parts of Luzon and President Bongbong Marcos says residents must not go back home just yet

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 2,492 aftershocks have been recorded as of Thursday following the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that rocked Abra and many parts of Luzon, according to state seismologists.

In its latest update, the said that from 2,018 aftershocks on Monday, the number has since risen to  2,492.

Of the 2,492 aftershocks, Phivolcs said 840 were plotted or recorded, while 59 were felt, with a magnitude range of from 1.4 to 5.1.

Phivolcs has said that aftershocks are expected in the vicinity of the epicenter of last week’s earthquake.

At least 10 people died after the tremor struck northeast of Lagangilang, Abra last July 27, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
