MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) is appealing to local government units (LGUs) to dismantle COVID-19 isolation facilities on school grounds ahead of the opening of school year 2022-2023 on August 22, 2022.

“We’re really trying to prepare all the schools kasi kulang na nga tayo ng classroom (because we have a classroom shortage)” DepEd spokesman Michael Poa said in a press briefing.

“We’re really appealing to the LGUs na itong mga schools na nagamit na isolation facilities noon na ngayon ay may natitira pa ring mga tents ay pinapatanggal na natin ‘yun,” Poa added.

Poa said LGUs have committed to clearing the schools.

He said a school in Quezon City would already pull out the remaining isolation tents on their premises this week.

Poa, however, could not give details on how many schools were used as quarantine facilities since the data is yet to be consolidated by different regional offices, he said.
