COVID-19 numbers in PH decreasing — OCTA

MANILA, Philippines —The weekly average of new COVID-19 cases in the country decreased by 15 percent while the nationwide positivity rate likewise declined, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said on Sunday.

“The number of new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines decreased to 2,959 or less than 3,000 per day as of August 27, 2022, a decrease of 15% from the previous week’s average of 3,487,” said David in a post on Twitter.

 He added that the nationwide positivity rate also decreased from 16.2 percent to 14.3 percent, as of August 26.

Meanwhile, David said the country’s current average daily attack rate (ADAR) is currently at 2.69 per 100,000 population, which is considered low.

Reproduction number also decreased to 0.91 as of August 24, from 0.96 on August 17.

“If current trends in the growth rate hold, this projects to less than 1000 cases per day nationwide by mid September and less than 500 per day by end of September,” said David.

As of August 27, the Philippines has recorded 3,872,405 COVID-19 cases, with 29,807 active cases, 3,780,985 recoveries and 61,613 deaths.
