DOH logs higher fresh cases of COVID-19 at 17,891 from September 19-25

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported tallying 17,891 new COVID-19 cases from September 19 to 25 – 22 percent higher than the 14,701 recorded the week before.

The total number of fatalities due to COVID-19 throughout the country has risen to 62,790, with an additional 242 recently reported. In the most recent count, 34 patients died this month, while the remaining cases were recorded between April 2021 and January 2022.

The DOH noted that despite counting higher new coronavirus infections, only two or 0.01 percent of the total new cases were labeled as severe or critical. The number of patients considered severely or critically ill due to COVID-19 stood at 790 as of September 25.

Meanwhile, the DOH reports a drop from 23.9 percent to 22.9 percent in the utilization of non-ICU beds and from 28.2 percent to 27.2 percent in the utilization of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients.

It further mentioned in its weekly report that in terms of vaccination progress, fully-vaccinated individuals slightly increased to 73,017,553 (93.49 percent of the target population) after 119,850 more people were vaccinated against COVID-19 from September 19 to 25.

Boosted people also increased to 19,211,908 after an additional 328,452 received their booster shots in the same period.
