14 areas under Wind Signal No. 1 due to Paeng

MANILA, Philippines — The state meteorologists on Thursday hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in 14 areas in Luzon and Visayas due to Tropical Storm Paeng.

In its latest advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said nine areas in Luzon and five areas in Visayas were put under Wind Signal No. 1, where strong winds of 39 to 61 kilometers per hour (kph) wind is expected.

  • The eastern portion of Romblon (San Fernando, Cajidiocan, Magdiwang, Romblon, Corcuera, Banton), Marinduque

  • Southern portion of mainland Quezon (Atimonan, Padre Burgos, Pagbilao, Quezon, Alabat, Perez, Unisan, Gumaca, Plaridel, Agdangan, Macalelon, Pitogo, General Luna, Catanauan, San Francisco, San Andres, Mulanay, San Narciso, Buenavista, Lopez, Calauag, Guinayangan, Tagkawayan, Mauban)

Visayas

  • Eastern Samar
  • Northern Samar
  • Samar

  • Northern portion of Leyte (San Isidro, Calubian, Tabango, Leyte, Capoocan, Carigara, San Miguel, Babatngon, Tacloban City, Santa Fe, Palo, Villaba, Kananga, Jaro, Alangalang, Pastrana, Dagami, Tanauan, Tabontabon, Tolosa, Tunga, Barugo)

The center of Paeng was estimated 485 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, according to Pagasa.

Paeng is forecast to intensify into a typhoon on Saturday, before its possible landfall in the country on Sunday, said Pagasa.
