MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Wednesday said that it would intensify efforts to prosecute cases together with the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Boying Remulla met with Customs Chief Bienvenido Rubio to discuss enhancing prosecution cases, with the BOC proposing a joint legal summit between the two agencies.
“The DOJ and BOC revisited several policies and circulars to resolve bottlenecks and streamline communications and procedures for case processing,” said the customs bureau in a statement.
According to the BOC, the two agencies can further understand each other’s capabilities and processes to prosecute successfully.
“We will continue to intensify our border protection efforts to safeguard the interests and welfare of Filipinos against smuggled and unsafe goods that pose hazards to our society,” Rubio said.
Remulla committed to cooperating with the BOC.
