BI deports top Mongolian gov鈥檛 official arrested in Cebu

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday said it has deported an undocumented ranking government official in Mongolia “who is wanted in his home country for corruption offenses.”
BI officials on Tuesday arrested Tunjin Badamjunai, 67, after receiving information from the Mongolian Police that the official is staying in Cebu, according to Immigration Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr.
Manahan said BI was “initially informed by Mongolian authorities that Badamjunai will be in Cebu City,” prompting Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco to issue a mission order, which was the basis for his arrest.
Manahan said the Mongolian government “also canceled his passport, rendering him undocumented.”
Consequently, Badamjunai was deported on Tuesday night via a Korean Airlines flight from Mactan, Cebu, upon the request of Mongolian authorities.
According to Bloomberg, Badamjunai served as the former Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry in Mongolia.
Tansingco lauded BI operatives for his part: “This is yet again a major arrest for our agents,” he said.
