Bongbong Marcos urges unity vs climate change on Earth Day

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday urged the public to partake in efforts against climate change on Earth Day.
According to its website, Earth Day marks the beginning of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
“Ngayong Earth Day, inaanyayahan natin ang publiko at kapwa nating lingkod bayan na makiisa sa pandaigdigang aksyon laban sa climate change,” said Marcos in a Facebook post.
(This Earth Day, we encourage the public and fellow public servants to be united in the global fight against climate change.)
Marcos also vowed his administration’s support for the environment by creating policies to combat climate change.

According to him, such efforts are headed by the Climate Change Commission, which is the policy-making government body on climate change.
Earth Day began when Senator Gaylord Nelson from the United States witnessed a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. He then began organizing efforts to raise consciousness on environmental issues.
“Groups that had been fighting individually against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness and the extinction of wildlife united on Earth Day around these shared common values,” said the official on Earth Day website.
