Comelec debunks document announcing proclamation of several party-list reps

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday debunked a document that is circulating, which announces the proclamation dates of several party-list representatives.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday, debunked a document that is circulating, which announces the proclamation dates of several party-list representatives.

According to a statement from the Comelec, this document dated May 5, ordered certain individuals, who are named therein as party-List representatives, “to appear immediately before the House of Representatives at Diliman, Quezon City on the 11th day of May 2023 at 2:00 pm for their Proclamation and Oath of Office.”

“The Comelec unreservedly refutes the genuineness and legitimacy of a document being disseminated on social media purporting to be an official Press Statement as issued by its Education and Information Department (EID),” said the Comelec in a statement.

“…Contrary to the claim in the spurious document, the Comelec is without authority or jurisdiction to make such an order, whether under the Constitution or any existing law or regulation,” it added.

Furthermore, Comelec explained that proceedings involving the party-list representations are conducted within the commission’s premises.

Due to this, Comelec warned registered or coalition of political parties to only take notice of directives sent by the Office of the Clerk of the Commission through official channels.

The commission also called on the public to be more discerning of any information and to remain vigilant against misinformation, disinformation and misinformation as we advance closer to the election period of the 2023 elections.
