Phivolcs: No tsunami warning after 6.3 earthquake in Batangas

The 6.3 earthquake in Calatagan, Batangas early Thursday is not likely to generate a tsunami, state seismologists said.

MANILA, Philippines — The 6.3 earthquake in Calatagan, Batangas early Thursday is not likely to generate a tsunami, state seismologists said.

“We don’t expect a tsunami warning because of the depth of the focus,” the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in a statement.

The tectonic tremor occurred at 10:19 am, 15 kilometers southwest of the said area, and had a depth of 119 kilometers.
