MANILA, Philippines — Expect rain to occur in some parts of the country on Monday due to two low pressure areas (LPAs) inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather agency said.

The LPA outside PAR was located 1,960 kilometers east-northeast of eastern Visayas while the LPA inside PAR was spotted 875 km east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon, according to the latest bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

State weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA outside PAR continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, which would bring rains over portions of Mindanao.

“Itong nasa labas ay nagpapalakas po ng hanging habagat na siyang nakaka-apekto partikular sa may bahagi ng Mindanao kaya inaasahan natin na magiging maulap ang kalangitan na may malaking tyansa ng pag-ulan sa may bahagi ng Zamboanga Peninsula,” he said in a public weather forecast.

(This LPA outside PAR is strengthening the southwest monsoon which is particularly affecting parts of Mindanao, so we expect cloudy skies with a high chance of rain especially in the Zamboanga Peninsula.)

Meanwhile, the trough or extension of an LPA inside PAR would bring overcast skies with rain showers in parts of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Badrina, however, said both LPAs are not likely to develop into tropical depressions.

Pagasa likewise said that Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have generally fair to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms on Monday still due to the southwest monsoon.

It warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

“Possible pa rin ‘yung mainit na tanghali hanggang sa pulu-pulong pag-ulan sa gabi,” Badrina nevertheless said.

(It’s still possible that it will be hot in the afternoon until it rains in the evening.)

As of writing, no gale warning was raised by Pagasa over any part of the archipelago’s seaboards.
