Traslacion routes to get some road patch-up — DPWH

Nazareno 2024: Live Updates for The Feast of Black Nazarene

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Wednesday that it is set to conduct road maintenance activities along the Black Nazarene Grand Procession or “Traslacion” route to ensure road safety.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan has ordered upkeep to fix defects and other road hazards following a joint inspection with the Feast of the Black Nazarene Committee.

“Potholes, as well as tree branches and other road obstructions within road right-of-way, are now being cleared by our DEOs (district engineering offices) to ensure the safety of the devotees,” said DPWH National Capital Region Director Loreta Malaluan in a statement.

She added that temporary railings for the Arlegui Bridge will also be installed for Nazareno devotees.

Meanwhile, several road barriers from the DPWH DEOs will be lent for crowd control and securing the Traslacion route.

The annual “Traslacion” involves transporting the life-size image of the Black Nazarene from the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park to the Quiapo Church.

This is the first time Traslacion will be held since being suspended three consecutive times due to COVID-19 restrictions.
