DSWD issues warning vs fraudulent social media post on financial aid

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) debunked on Thursday a social media post that claimed it would be giving monthly financial assistance under its Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) program.

According to the post which was on a Facebook group named 4ps nationwide updates, a list of names was given to announce who will be receiving the alleged monthly assistance.

“Hindi totoo ang kumakalat na Facebook post na ang Department of Social Welfare and Development ay magkakaroon ng payout ng buwanang tulong-pinansyal bilang bahagi ng Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) program at ang listahan ay maaaring ma-access sa pamamagitan ng isang link,” the DSWD said.

(The Facebook post that claims that the Department of Social Welfare and Development will be having a monthly financial assistance payout as part of the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) program and the list may be accessed using a link is false.)

The department added that the UCT program was only conducted from 2018 to 2020 under the Republic Act 10963 or Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.

“Ang UCT ay subsidiya na ipinatupad noong taong 2018 at nagtapos noong taong 2020 sa ilalim ng Republic Act 10963 o Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law,” it added.

(The UCT is a subsidy implemented from 2018 and finished in 2020 under the Republic Act 10963 or Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.)

The DSWD also urged people to report the Facebook pages that had the post, and to verify first before believing social media posts.
