Coast Guard rescues 6 passengers off Surigao del Norte
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday said it has rescued six passengers of a motorbanca that sustained damage due to the inclement weather off Socorro, Surigao del Norte on Sunday.
The Coast Guard reported that MBCA Siarelco departed Feeder Port at Barangay Navarro in Socorro when it encountered rough sea conditions off Barangay Rizal.
“While underway, they encountered a gust of wind followed by big waves, which damaged the motorbanca’s rudder, causing it to lose steering control,” the PCG said in a statement.
MBCA Siarelco was en route to Barangay 12 in Dapa, Surigao del Norte.
The vessel was towed to the Port of Socorro, Surigao del Norte.
