Veterinarian appointed as BAI’s new head

MANILA, Philippines — Veterinarian Enrico Miguel Capulong has been appointed as the officer-in-charge (OIC) director of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).

Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel announced his decision to appoint Capulong on Thursday.

Before this designation, Capulong was head of Manila South Harbor’s quarantine office.

Capulong graduated from Araneta University in 1986 with a degree in veterinary medicine and has a Master of Science in Agriculture degree from Pampanga Agricultural College.

Tiu Laurel also designated veterinarian Romeo Manalili as the OIC-Assistant Director of BAI.

Capulong succeeded Paul Limson, who is now the appointed director of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Biotechnology Program Office.

The DA said the latest changes in management are part of Tiu Laurel’s vision of “streamlined and more responsive bureaucracy.”

Established in 1930, the BAI is tasked to investigate, study, and report the causes of communicable animal diseases, their prevention, and promote the livestock industry’s development.
