Speaker Romualdez on aunt Imelda: She’s “very stabke”

MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Martin Romualdez on Friday (March 8) said his aunt, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, is still “under observation” but already in a “very stable” condition.

“I understand that her temperature has normalized, but of course, she is still under observation because she has a slight pneumonia,” Romualdez said partly in Filipino.

“But (she’s) very, very stable, and she’s recovering,” he added.

It was Imelda’s daughter, Sen. Imee Marcos, who first announced that the former first lady was hospitalized due to suspected pneumonia on Tuesday, March 5.

Her son, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., on the same day, further confirmed but added that his mother was already “in good spirits” despite suffering from “slight pneumonia” and fever.

On Thursday (March 7), the president gave an update through X (formerly Twitter) that Imelda was already on the path to recovery.

However, he noted that the Marcos family decided to keep Imelda in the hospital to allow her to finish her prescribed antibiotic treatment, as well as rest.

Imelda is the widow of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and has been known for her opulent lifestyle, amassing more than a thousand pairs of shoes and dresses.

In 2018, she was found guilty of seven counts of graft by the ’s Fifth Division and sentenced to six to 11 years in prison for each graft count.

But the police refused to arrest Imelda, citing her age and health, leading to her being eventually allowed to post bail as the court decides her appeal.
