Parts of Zambales hit by 2-hour power interruption as Luzon grid on red alert

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Several towns in this province experienced a two-hour power interruption on Tuesday afternoon (May 28) due to insufficient power supply.

According to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), it carried out manual load dropping, or rotational brownouts, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in areas covered by the Zambales II Electric Cooperative.

The affected areas include the towns of Subic, Castillejos, San Marcelino, parts of San Narciso (Dalipawen, Namatacan, and Simminublan), and parts of San Antonio (Angeles and San Esteban).

Manual load dropping entails allocating and distributing a limited electricity supply to various areas, NGCP said.

The limited power supply is a result of increased demand.

A red alert was issued on the Luzon grid from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to the NGCP, a red alert status is issued when the power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulatory requirements.
