PCG targets refloating MTKR Jason Bradley by Sept. 14

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities are targeting to refloat motor tanker (MTKR) Jason Bradley, which sank in shallow waters off Mariveles in Bataan over a month ago, by Saturday, September 14, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

In a report on Wednesday, PCG said the sunken motor’s contracted salvor, FES Challenger, commenced the installation of siphoning pipes in preparation for seawater siphoning.

“FES Challenger said the target date to refloat MTKR Jason Bradley will be Saturday, September 14. It will be brought to Diving Industry Shipyard, Barangay Alas-asin, Mariveles, Bataan for further operations,” the agency disclosed.

Based on reports, Jason Bradley was reported to have no cargo on board, but divers earlier found fuel leaks on the vessel and an undetermined amount of diesel.

Aside from MTKR Jason Bradley, two other ships sank in Manila Bay in July—MV Mirola 1 ran aground on July 31 and capsized, while MT Terranova sank off Bataan last July 25.

The incident involving MT Terranova killed a crew member, while an oil spill from the motor tanker reached the coastline of Manila and nearby provinces.
