Pagasa added that a combination of incoming northeasterly wind from East China Sea and low ocean heat over the Taiwan Strait are set to rapidly weaken Typhoon Julian.

The state weather bureau finds the typhoon still on track to landfall in Taiwan on Thursday, maintaining maximum sustained winds of 165 kph and gustiness of up to 205 kph.

“After landfall, Julian is forecast to move slowly to almost stationary over the landmass of Taiwan, where it may become a remnant low by Saturday while still within PAR but relatively far from any part of the country,” Pagasa noted.
