MANILA, Philippines — Rain will still occur in certain areas of the country on Thursday, October 17, due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and easterlies, the state weather bureau reported.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) weather specialist Benison Estareja said the ITCZ will continue to affect the southern portion of Mindanao and Palawan, while the easterlies will influence weather conditions in Luzon and Eastern Visayas.

Pagasa explained that the ITCZ is the line where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, while the easterlies are winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

According to Estareja, the ITCZ will bring overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Occidental, Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan.
