Classes suspended in Cagayan as Kristine threatens northern Luzon

MANILA, Philippines – Classes at all levels, both public and private, in Laguna province, were suspended due to bad weather brought by Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

According to Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez, classes were suspended from October 22 to 23, 2024, after the province was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1.

“Everyone is advised to follow the instructions coming from the local government if evacuation from your area is necessary,” Hernandez said in Filipino in an announcement posted on his Facebook page.

Intermittent rain showers may be expected in areas under TCWS No. 1 within the next 36 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said as of 11 a.m., tropical storm Kristine was plotted some 335 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west-northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph).

The state weather bureau added that the tropical storm had maintained its maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
