Marikina River under first alarm as Kristine’s heavy rain raises level

Marikina River was placed under first alarm on Thursday evening as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) continues to bring heavy rains over Metro Manila and various areas nationwide.

MANILA, Philippines – Marikina River was placed under first alarm on Thursday evening as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) continues to bring heavy rains over Metro Manila and various areas nationwide.

The Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) said the first alarm was raised as Marikina River’s water level hit 15 meters as of 6:50 a.m.

The danger level of Marikina River is typically at 18 meters, which indicates high risk of flooding and necessitates evacuation among affected communities.

Kristine has brought heavy rains to various parts of the country, affecting over two million individuals nationwide.

It is now over the coastal waters of Santa Cruz in Ilocos Sur. Kristine was moving west-southwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph), carrying maximum sustained winds of 95 kph and gusts of up to 145 kph.
