2 more towns in Sorsogon declare 鈥榮tate of calamity鈥� due to Kristine

SANTA MAGDALENA, Sorsogon – Two more towns in Sorsogon province were placed under a state of calamity after suffering severe damage due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine’s onslaught.
Victor Alim, councilor and acting presiding officer of Donsol Municipal Council, announced in a Facebook post Thursday (Oct. 24) that the resolution declaring a state of calamity in the town was approved by the council.
In the resolution, councilors said the decision was “in response to the dire situation of the people in Donsol.”
“The municipality experiences disruption of local economy and normal activities of its communities due to massive floodings, strong winds, landslides, displacement and damage to infrastructures, homes and livelihood,” the resolution stated.
Meanwhile, Matnog town officials also made the same declaration after its low-lying and coastal villages were submerged in floods.
It was recommended by Mayor Cattleya So, who chairs the municipal disaster risk reduction and management council.
Sorsogon’s Bulan town was first to declare state of calamity on Wednesday.
Gov. Edwin Hamor earlier announced he is giving mayors authority as he intends not to declare a province-wide state of calamity.
