Magnitude 4.1 quake hits Surigao del Sur town

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck a municipality in Surigao del Sur on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

In an afternoon bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 12:03 p.m. Its epicenter was located east of Lingig, Surigao del Sur.

The tremor recorded a depth of 10 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, according to the state seismologist.

Phivolcs stated that no damage or additional aftershocks are expected from the earthquake.

Reports on the earthquake’s intensities are also yet to be released, the agency added.

Hinatuan, a nearby Surigao del Sur town, was also hit by a magnitude 4 earthquake on Sunday morning.

It was reported to be an aftershock of a magnitude 7.4 Surigao del Sur earthquake on December 2, 2023.
