NBI issues subpoena for VP Duterte anew

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued a new subpoena for Vice President Sara Duterte over her alleged threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Yes …for her appearance [at the] NBI on Dec. 11,” NBI chief Jaime Santiago told through Viber on Monday.

This subpoena is the second sent by the NBI to Duterte who was supposed to appear before the agency for alleged grave threats and violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 (RA 11479) on Friday, Nov. 29.

However, Duterte—through her lawyer—moved to postpone the initial summon last Friday, Nov. 9.

All this stemmed from a threat made by Duterte in a press conference she held online, claiming that she instructed someone to kill Marcos, his wife Liza, and cousin Speaker Martin Romualdez should she herself die.

Meanwhile, apart from the cases being investigated against her by the NBI, Duterte is also facing complaints for grave coercion, direct assault and disobedience—all of which were filed by the Philippine National Police.

She is also facing disbarment complaints before the Supreme Court.

An impeachment complaint was also filed against her on Monday afternoon.
