33 dengue deaths recorded in Iloilo since January

ILOILO CITY — A death on Dec. 1 brought to 33 the total number of fatalities due to dengue in Iloilo since January, data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) on Wednesday showed.
The latest fatality was a 44-year-old woman from the municipality of San Rafael.
“The immediate cause was hypovolemic shock with dengue hemorrhagic fever as the underlying cause,” IPHO chief Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon said in a message to the media.
From Jan. 1 to Dec. 7, the province recorded 11,550 dengue cases, including the fatalities in 42 local government units.
The cases are higher than the 1,734 cases with two deaths recorded during the same period last year, although it is already on the decline.
Article continues after this advertisementThe highest number of newly reported cases was during the Aug. 11-17 monitoring period, with 1,253, but the figure has steadily decreased, based on the IPHO report.
In a previous interview, Quiñon urged the public to remain vigilant against the possible transmission of dengue amid inclement weather conditions.
She said the most important campaign is still the 4S, which stands for searching and destroying breeding places, self-protection measures by wearing clothes where the body is less exposed, seeking early treatment once signs and symptoms manifest, and saying yes to fogging if there is an outbreak.
