‘Failure is a detour, not fatal defeat,’ 2024 Bar exam flunkers told
MANILA, Philippines — “Failure is a temporary detour, not a fatal defeat,” Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Lopez told the over 6,000 who failed the 2024 Bar examination.
“Rise above it, move forward, and try again. Never lose the reason why you want to become a lawyer as well as your commitment to advocate for the rule of law and justice,” Lopez added.
Out of 10,490 exam takers, 37.84 percent, or 3,962 passed the Bar examination.

Lopez adjusted the passing score from 75 percent to 74 percent, which he said was approved by the Court en banc.
“It is because of the generosity of my colleague to adjust the passing grade of the examinees. Instead of 75, which I proposed, the good justices headed by the Chief Justice voted unanimously to adopt a grade of 74 as a passing grade,” Lopez said.

Lopez also reminded the successful examinees to “remain humble as you are not superior to those who failed.”
To the examinees who failed, Lopez said, “History has proven that several examinees who failed still topped the Bar exam when they took the Bar again.”
