MANILA, Philippines — The shear line and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring rain to parts of the country on Friday, with heavy to intense rainfall expected over Cagayan province.

Moderate to heavy rainfall was also forecast over the provinces of Apayao, Isabela, Palawan, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 p.m. advisory on Thursday.

Localized flooding and landslides in highly susceptible areas may occur due to the amount of rainfall, the state weather bureau added.

“The ITCZ continues to affect Mindanao, and now it is also affecting Palawan,” weather specialist Veronica Torres said, adding that the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” continues to affect northern Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will be felt over Mindanao, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Palawan due to the ITCZ, while the northeast monsoon will continue to bring rains over Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region, Torres said.
