MMDA seeks work, class suspension in Manila, Pasay for Jan 13 INC rally

MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is recommending suspending work and classes in Manila and Pasay cities on Monday, January 13, due to the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally at the Quirino Grandstand.

The MMDA said it anticipates the participation of 1 million people from different provinces in the event, which the INC called the 鈥淣ational Rally for Peace.鈥

MMDA chairman Romando Artes said during a press conference Friday that they have already submitted this recommendation to Malaca帽ang.

We will wait if our request is granted,鈥 he said in mixed Filipino and English.

MMDA traffic operations officer Manny Miro said they had designated some roads leading to Quirino Grandstand as parking areas for the event, which may cause traffic congestion.

Around 1,300 MMDA personnel will be deployed to manage the traffic situation on Monday, according to Artes.

The INC will conduct the rally to express its support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.鈥檚 opposition to the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
