Fire hits residential area in Sampaloc, Manila

A fire breaks out at a two-story residential building in Sampaloc district in Manila early Thursday morning, January 16, 2025, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). The BFP said that around 300 individuals and 100 structures were affected by the incident. It estimated the fire damage cost at P400,000. The BFP also noted that the two-floor structure was made of light materials, which may have contributed to the fire鈥檚 rapid spread. The incident likewise resulted in the injury of an individual. MANILA, Philippines 鈥 A fire broke out at a two-story residential building in Sampaloc district in Manila early Thursday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.

According to the BFP, the blaze started at 5:05 a.m. and quickly escalated to the first alarm by 5:08 a.m. and the second alarm two minutes later.

The fire reached the third alarm at 5:20 a.m. and the fourth alarm at 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters said they managed to control the blaze at 6:57 a.m. and eventually declared a fire out at 8:08 a.m.

The BFP said that around 300 individuals and 100 structures were affected by the incident. It estimated the fire damage cost at P400,000.

The incident likewise resulted in the injury of聽Adrian Flores, 30, who sustained a suspected fracture on his left shoulder and a laceration on his left knee.

Fire authorities are still determining the cause of the blaze, which allegedly started on the second floor of the building owned by a certain Carlos Martin, also known as 鈥淏otchok.鈥

The BFP also noted that the structure was made of light materials, which may have contributed to the fire鈥檚 rapid spread.

The BFP said a total of 78 fire trucks responded to the scene.
