INQToday: Navy flags espionage, says foreign power mapping PH
There seems to be a “deliberate and calculated move to map out” the Philippines by a “foreign power,” according to Philippine Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad.
Trinidad’s comment follows the arrest of a suspected Chinese “sleeper agent” allegedly involved in espionage activities. He also cited other incidents involving foreign nationals last year.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday congratulated newly sworn-in US President Donald Trump and expressed eagerness to work with his administration.
Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the US on January 20 (US time).
Although she voted against this year’s P6.326 trillion national budget, opposition Sen. Risa Hontiveros expressed doubts Congress would pass any budget with blank items, as claimed by former president Rodrigo Duterte.
This is still in response to allegations that the 2025 budget was riddled with blanks.
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa should face the House of Representatives’ quad committee to clarify allegations against the past administration’s war on drugs instead of going to the media, Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. said on Tuesday.
Abante, during the resumption of the quad committee hearings, said that de la Rosa was given several chances to explain his involvement in former president Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-illegal drug campaign, but he did not avail of it.
Quiboloy hospitalized due to pneumonia
Detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy was brought back hospital over the weekend this time due to pneumonia, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) confirmed on Tuesday.
Quiboloy, who is accused of child abuse, sexual abuse, and qualified trafficking, was previously brought to the Philippine Heart Center last November because of an irregular heartbeat.
PNP to summon ‘sampaguita girl’ in viral altercation with mall guard
The Philippine National Police Civil Security Group (PNP CSG) will also summon the sampaguita vendor as part of its investigation into her altercation with a mall security guard, a video of which recently went viral.
The mall guard appeared before the CSG’s Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (Sosia) last Monday to air his side of the issue after he was seen destroying the girl’s sampaguita flowers after asking her to leave the mall premises.
